SNP WELCOMES BVT INTERNATIONAL SHIPBUILDING ORDERS.

The SNP has welcomed news that BVT is to build a patrol vessel for Tinidad and Tobago on the Clyde.

SNP Westminster leader and Defence spokesperson, Angus Robertson MP, said:

"This excellent news underlines the tremendous skill and quality levels on the Clyde and the potential of the export market.

"As BVT works through orders from the UK Ministry of Defence more work must be sourced internationally.

"With excellent facilities and a committed workforce on the Clyde, it is clear that orders can be won from around the world.”

Deputy First Minister and Govan MSP, Nicola Sturgeon, said:

“This is excellent news for the Clyde workforce and reinforces the reputation of Scottish yards as the best in the world.

“It is clear that Scottish yards are securing orders on the basis of their formidable skills, and record of delivery.

"Shipbuilding plays an important role within Scotland’s manufacturing base, and it is clear that in all circumstances the industry can have a bright future.”
