SNP ANGER OVER HOMEOWNER HELP DELAY.

SNP ANGER OVER HOMEOWNER HELP DELAY.

MORTGAGE PROTECTION SCHEME NOT OPERATIONAL UNTIL APRIL

SNP Treasury spokesperson, Stewart Hosie MP, has expressed disbelief that the UK Government’s much trumpeted Homeowners Mortgage Support Scheme is not yet up and running and is unlikely to be in operation until April 2009.

Mr Hosie today (Tuesday) received a written answer from the Department of Communities and Local Government which reveals that the scheme is still subject to negotiations.

Commenting, Mr Hosie said:

“This is the latest in a catalogue of errors.

“Firstly, Baroness Vadera revealed that only a tiny percentage of the small business protection scheme has been rolled out, then as the UK Government struggles to agree the terms of the bank asset protection scheme, the Lloyds share price plummets.

“And now, we discover that help for struggling homeowners is still not yet up and running.

“Gordon Brown landed in Washington keen to promote himself as saviour of the world. Unfortunately, for homeowners across the UK, his ad-hoc schemes to salvage the UK economy are still far from super.”
