LORD MYNERS HAS QUESTIONS TO ANSWER SAYS JOHN McFALL.
Commenting by remarks made on today’s Scottish Politucs Show by Labour MP John McFall – the Chairman of the House of Commons Treasury Committee – that Lord Myners has questions to answer over the Sir Fred Goodwin pension debacle SNP Treasury Spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP said:
“These remarks put the bluster by Labour Cabinet Ministers into serious question. If the Chairman of the Treasury Committee – a Labour MP – says Lord Myners has questions to answer over Fred Goodwin’s pension then the circumstances of how the Labour government allowed this deal to go through are far from answered.
“The implication that the UK Government approved Fred Goodwin’s pension package is simply breathtaking.
“Gordon Brown, Alistair Darling and a coterie of other Cabinet Minsters have been in and out of television studios wringing their hands in condemnation, and then we found out a Labour Minister allowed the package to go through.
“This whole affair has descended into farce with claim and counterclaim about who knew what and when. Then that’s followed by Labour MPs wanting Fred Goodwin stripped of the knighthood Gordon Brown is reported to have nominated him for!
“You couldn’t make up a script of ‘The Thick of It’ as farcical as this. What we actually need are all the facts on the table not this Labour soap opera.
“It’s time for the UK Government to be straight - regardless of how embarrassing that might be – and focus on action and answers which will help the country through this Downing Street depression instead of bluster designed to draw attention away from their own culpability."
