SCOTTISH NATIONAL PARTY WELCOMES £5.6 MILLION TO SUPPORT HIGHLAND AND ISLANDS EMPLOYMENT.
Highland & Islands MSP Dave Thompson has welcomed an announcement by the Education and Lifelong Learning Secretary Fiona Hyslop today (Friday) ensuring £5.6 million of funding to support employability and increase skills in the Highlands and Islands.
The funding is being allocated to a total of 33 projects across the Highlands and Islands and is expected to help about 7000 individuals strengthen their existing skills, obtain new skills or get into or back to work. Commenting Mr Thompson said:
“This is very good news for the Highland & Islands at a time when everybody acknowledges the need to ensure greater employability. “Nobody underestimates the economic problems people face today, however, today’s news is one that will bring hope to many in the Highlands and Islands. "This SNP fully recognise the concerns and anxieties on people in these difficult economic times and this is an indication of how we are focussing on ensuring people in the Highlands and Islands can reinforce their existing skills and obtain new skills.
“At a time of hardship for many this news provides a real opportunity for the Highlands & Islands to promote itself as a place to do business and create a wealthier and fairer society.”
This story is also closely followed by Mr Gareth Johnston of Braemar and West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine SNP Branch.
