PM GORDON BROWN SAYS FINANCIAL CRISIS “STARTED IN AMERICA”
WILL PRIME MINISTER BROWN REPEAT HIS THREE LITTLE WORDS IN USA?
Commenting on Gordon Brown’s visit to America today (Wednesday) for a pre-meeting with the G20 government leaders, SNP Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP, challenged Gordon Brown to repeat his claim that the current financial crisis started in America.
In his previous visit to the United States the words were notably missing from any announcements or speeches by the Prime Minister.
Mr Hosie said:
“It was quite striking that when the Prime Minister visited the United States a few weeks ago that his oft-quoted phrase that the financial crisis ‘started in America’ was notably missing.
“Perhaps he thinks the American people and media don’t notice these things and he thinks he can pull the wool over their eyes by saying one thing this side of the Atlantic and another in the United States.
“It’s the same contradictory message he is sending to Scotland. One minute he is boasting about emulating Barack Obama’s economic stimulus for America when the real fact is that he is planning to cut a billion pounds in Scottish public spending.”
