PRIME MINISTER BROWN TAKES A PUMMELLING OVER PRIVATISATION PLANS.

PRIME MINISTER BROWN TAKES A PUMMELLING OVER PRIVATISATION PLANS.

ROYAL MAIL REBELS EMBARRASS BROWN

Speaking after Prime Minister’s Questions today, at which Gordon Brown faced embarrassing questioning from his own backbenchers on plans for the part-privatisation of Royal Mail, SNP Postal Affairs spokesperson Mike Weir MP said:
“Gordon Brown is on a collision course with his own party over plans to privatise Royal Mail.

“It says something when the most uncomfortable questions to the Prime Minister are coming from his own backbenchers.

”Downing Street need to listen to the anger and concern coming from their own MPs and ditch plans to privatise Royal Mail.

“The Conservatives will be rubbing their hands while Labour backbenchers and the unions are clearly furious.

“Labour’s plans would spell the beginning of the end for Royal Mail, and open the door to job losses, service cuts and a deterioration in the working conditions of postal workers.

“A private partner will only be concerned with profit, and Royal Mail must not lose the social focus which is essential for rural areas.”
