MASON WELCOMES CONFIRMATION OF POLICE INVESTIGATION

SNP REITERATE CALLS TO CLEAN UP GLASGOW POLITICS

Following confirmation today (Thursday) that Strathclyde Police will investigate a growing number of allegations surrounding former Labour council leader Stephen Purcell, SNP candidate for Glasgow East John Mason, who has been calling for an inquiry said:

“This is welcome news from Strathclyde Police and puts more pressure on Labour Councillors in Glasgow to adhere to the call for an independent investigation.

“A number of questions must now be answered by Mr. Purcell, council officials and his Labour colleagues.

“As more allegations emerge everyday it is increasingly clear that this is not just about the actions of one individual but extends to considerably further into the Labour group at the council and the networks surrounding it.

“What is important now for the people of Glasgow is that we get to the bottom of this and everything is made plain for the public to see. Glaswegians deserve to know what has been going on among those in charge of their council.

“It’s time to clean up Glasgow and bring this drip-drip of damaging allegations to an end.”
