SNP SLAMS LABOUR ATTACK ON INTEGRITY OF EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS

SNP SLAMS LABOUR ATTACK ON INTEGRITY OF EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS

Bob Doris MSP has expressed his disgust at Labour's attack on the representatives of Scotland's education and teaching bodies who serve on the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) Management Board, after Labour education spokesperson Des McNulty accused them of "rubber-stamping" a decision to proceed with the implementation of CfEwithout delay.

SNP MSP for Glasgow Mr Doris, who is a former teacher, said:
"Attacks on political opponents are one thing, but for Labour to impugn the integrity of the education professionals who serve on the CfE Management Board is beyond the pale.

"The CfE Management Board is made up of highly respected professionals from a wide range of organisations, including the SSTA, School Leaders Scotland, HMIE and the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Many of its members are themselves working teachers and educationalists. What makes Des McNulty think that he knows better than them?

"Far from "rubber-stamping" anything as Des McNulty accuses them of, the CfE Management Board gave long and careful consideration to the issues surrounding the implementation of CfE before they came to their conclusions.

"It was Labour who dithered and delayed on CfE, and it is the SNP government which has taken the decisive action needed to get this much needed reform into our classrooms and working for teachers, parents and pupils. No amount of smears and personal attacks by Des McNulty will disguise that fact."
