MSP URGES RYANAIR TO DO MORE TO HELP STRANDED PASSENGERS

Willie Coffey MSP has slammed Ryanair for failing to look after their passengers caught up in the travel disruption caused by the Icelandic volcano and has issued an urgent call for the airline to do more to help.

Ryanair announced today that it has extended its flight cancellation until at least mid-day tomorrow (Wednesday).
Mr Coffey, the SNP MSP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun, said,

“I have been in contact with constituents stranded in Spain.

“They tell me that uniformed Ryanair staff at Malaga Airport have refused to talk to them and even denied working for Ryanair.

“I find this a scandalous situation and ask that Ryanair take immediate action to offer assistance to their thousands of passengers stranded all over Europe.

“I tried contacting them and it took me an hour to get through to the number on their website. You can’t even email them to ask for help that way.

“Their website simply says there are no flights flying.

“But their passengers are running out of cash and can’t get in contact with them to get advice and help.

“This is a shocking service from a company and no way to treat their many thousands of loyal customers. It’s unacceptable for Ryanair to think that they can just shrug off responsibility in this matter.

“I’m very pleased that the Scottish Government’s helpline is now up and running and I would urge anyone who is concerned about loved ones stranded abroad to use this number - 0800 027 0504 or from overseas +44 800 027 0504.”
