ONLY SNP WILL PROTECT VITAL PUBLIC SERVICES

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS HIGHLIGHT IMPACT OF LONDON CUTS

In advance of the launch of the SNP’s manifesto tomorrow, the SNP Cabinet Secretaries for Health, Education and Finance today (Monday) joined SNP candidates for Dundee, Jim Barrie and Stewart Hosie to highlight the impact of London cuts on support for Scottish communities.

The SNP have already revealed that their manifesto contains commitments to guarantee free personal care and concessionary travel as well as extension of paternity leave and an increase in minimum wage in line with earnings.

Commenting, SNP Depute Leader Nicola Sturgeon said:

“Tomorrow, the SNP will unveil our manifesto for the Westminster election. At its heart is a commitment to support local communities and protect vital public services.

“In Government, the SNP already has a strong track record of delivering for Scotland. Since 2007, we have frozen council tax, put over 1,000 extra police officers on Scotland’s street, extended free school meals and concessionary bus travel and increased nursery provision.

“The SNP have fully funded free personal care for the elderly for the first time since the scheme was introduced and we will set out a commitment in our manifesto to ensuring this continues.

“Labour, Tory and Liberal – all have acknowledged swingeing budget cuts which threaten the progress made by the SNP Government. We are determined that these essential policy measures and investment will not be put at risk by the cuts agendas of the London parties who would rather blow billions on weapons of mass destruction than protect Scotland’s hospitals, schools and local services.

"Only the SNP are offering an alternative to the London parties and their cuts agendas.

“Our message at this election is simple – More Nats means Less Cuts. A strong team of local and national champions at Westminster speaking up for Scotland and protecting the vital public services we hold so dear.

“As the polls point towards a balanced parliament across the UK, the opportunities for a strong block of SNP MPs are increasing. By choosing SNP on May 6th, the people of Scotland can return a local and national champion who use their votes at Westminster to win for Scotland and protect the vital services we hold dear.”
