Commenting in advance of the rally, SNP Leader Alex Salmond said:

"For 23 years, I have been a Member of a Parliament dominated by a cosy
Westminster consensus.

"A balanced parliament may be an inconvenience for the London parties, but
it is a massive opportunity for Scotland to influence a new style of
Westminster government.

"In a balanced parliament, a strong bloc of SNP MPs can put Scottish
issues at the heart of Westminster, just as a referendum on independence
will give Scots a real opportunity to choose a new, better way forward for
Scotland.

"The time has come for a real alternative. The time has come for a strong
bloc of local and national SNP champions."
