SNP MSP REFUTES RMT STRIKE CLAIM

SNP MSP Christina McKelvie has today strongly refuted claims made by RMT general secretary Bob Crow about the use of public money to subsidise First Scotrail for losses incurred during the recent strikes by train staff in Scotland.

Ms McKelvie, a former Unison shop steward and the trade union liaison representative for the SNP’s Scottish parliamentary group, said:

“Not a single penny of public money has been used to subsidise First Scotrail or to fund the dispute in any way.
“There is not one iota of truth in Bob Crow’s claim to the contrary.
“Mr Crow is entirely entitled to argue his members’ case and he will find that the Scottish Government is always open to dialogue and discussion with trade unions, as is the SNP as a party.

“What he is not entitled to do is deliberately mislead RMT members, other trade unionists and the public with scaremongering and untruths about the use of public funds.”
