ROBERTSON WRITES TO ISRAELI AMBASSADOR OVER FLOTILLA INTERCEPTION

ROBERTSON WRITES TO ISRAELI AMBASSADOR OVER FLOTILLA INTERCEPTION

SNP Westminster leader and Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Angus
Robertson MP, has today (Tuesday) written to the Israeli Ambassador to
the UK appealing for the immediate release of volunteers, including a
number of Scots, being held after the interception of a flotilla
carrying aid to the Gaza Strip.

Mr Robertson said:

“People have been shocked as events have unfolded off the Gaza coast,
and the Israeli authorities need to give answers and assurances over
the welfare of those who were travelling with the flotilla.

“The level of force used by commandos against volunteers delivering
humanitarian aid has been totally disproportionate, and we deplore the
loss of lives as a result of this interception.

“The swift condemnation of these events by the international community
underlines the now obvious need for Israel to lift the blockade and
allow unencumbered access for the delivery of aid to Gaza.”
