SNP SLAMS LABOUR’S NUCLEAR OBSESSION.

SNP SLAMS LABOUR’S NUCLEAR OBSESSION.

SNP Westminster Energy spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, today (Wednesday) condemned Labour’s “nuclear obsession”.

Speaking at Scottish Questions, Mr Weir raised the recent report by Scottish Council for Development and Industry which found that Scotland could meet its energy targets from renewables but pointed out that it also noted that ten billion pounds of investment was needed.

Mr Weir said:

“The Secretary of State was completely unable to answer the question of how that essential investment sat with the deplorable action of the Westminster Government in cutting £1bn from the Scottish budget.

“Instead he fell back on Labour’s nuclear obsession despite the fact that the current financial crunch makes the already dubious finances of nuclear expansion look insane.

“Despite its limited finances, the Scottish Government has made great strides in renewable energy and is well on its way to exceeding its 2011 target.

”The SNP Government have done more in eighteen months than Labour have done in eleven years, and recently announced Saltire Prize which will further encourage development.

“Scotland neither needs nor wants nuclear power. Instead of slashing budgets Jim Murphy should be arguing for more funds to enable Scotland to build a cleaner greener future”.
