NEW RIVER FORTH CROSSING TO COST LESS MONEY.

NEW RIVER FORTH CROSSING TO COST LESS MONEY.

A9 TO BE DUALLED BETWEEN INVERNESS AND PERTH
.

SNP MSPs Tricia Marwick and Rob Gibson have welcomed today's announcement on the Strategic Transport Projects Review by the Scottish Government's Transport Minister, Stewart Stevenson, which has announced that the new Forth crossing will be at least £1 billion less than previously reported and that the A9 is to be dualled between Perth and Inverness.

Commenting on the new Forth Crossing Central Fife MSP Tricia Marwick said:
"The decision by the SNP Government to build a new Forth crossing will be welcomed by the people of Fife and ends the years of uncertainty faced by local commuters and businesses alike.

"The SNP Government has honoured its promise and in doing so has acted on an issue that the previous Labour and Liberal Democrat Executive dragged their feet on. "The SNP Government has also taken the sensible steps to lower costs and to ensure best value for that money.

"In contrast Labour have refused to rule out returning tolls to the Forth
and the people of Fife. Labour's transport spokesman made clear this morning that if Labour were in power he would look at all funding options and failed to rule out returning the hated tolls. "Since Labour imposed the tolls on the Forth Bridge in the first place and it was a Labour/LibDem Executive which failed to abolish them then people should suspect labour's future intentions.

"The fact is that it is an SNP Government delivering for Fife and all of Scotland and not burdening future generations with tolls or sky high costs." Commenting on the announcement for the dualling of the A9 Highlands & Islands MSP Rob Gibson said:

"This is great news for the Highlands and Islands. The announcement for dualling the A9 is a momentous development for not only the Highlands' transport needs but for Scotland as whole.

"This announcement will be welcomed throughout the Highlands. "Not only will it be welcomed for the safety benefits it can bring but it will also improve the Highland economy and Scotland's economic infrastructure.

"The SNP pledged to make Scotland wealthier and stronger and these transport announcements for the Highlands & Islands will help sustainably grow Scotland's economy."
