SCOTTISH PANEL OF EXPERTS PLAN.

SCOTTISH PANEL OF EXPERTS PLAN.

SCOTTISH PANEL OF EXPERTS PLAN from Scottish Secretery Jim Murphy.

MACNEIL COMMENTS ON MURPHY PANEL PLANS

Commenting on news that Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy is to establish a new Scottish panel of experts, academics and voluntary groups, to advise and inform the UK Government’s response to the credit crunch in Scotland, SNP Shadow Scotland Office spokesperson, Angus MacNeil MP, said:
“After ten years of devolution the Scotland Office has finally had an idea – its going to listen to people in Scotland and raise their concerns in Cabinet! It does make you wonder what successive Scottish Secretaries have been doing all these years.
”It is clear Jim Murphy needs all the help he can get, and so I welcome any genuine steps that will inform him of what is important to people in Scotland.
”Bringing together experts, academics and voluntary groups is a great idea, but what is crucial is that the UK government actually listen to what they have to say.
”If Jim Murphy is really looking for ideas to help Scotland survive the credit crunch, as a starter he should explain why he is supporting the unnecessary HBOS merger which could leave thousands unemployed.”
