SNP MP CONVEYS PUBLIC CONCERN OVER GAZA ATTACKS.
ROBERTSON WRITES TO ISRAELI AMBASSADOR.
Westminster SNP Leader and Foreign Affairs spokesman Angus Robertson has written to the Israeli embassy in London passing on the concerns of constituents and joining the international calls for an end to the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
The major escalation of violence in the Gaza strip has led to a significant public reaction in Scotland and Mr Robertson says that he and other parliamentarians have been receiving a large volume of emails and letters condemning the violence.
In his letter to Ambassador Ron Prosor, Westminster SNP leader Angus Robertson said:
"The SNP supports a two state solution which includes the right of Israel to exist in security and we condemn the rocketing of Israel from within Gaza. "
However, Israel's approach to the situation in Gaza appears to be a collective punishment of all who live there and is unacceptable.
"The violence in Gaza and Israel has led to significant international concern from many people throughout Scotland. "
I and other parliamentarians have received messages from constituents who believe that the Israeli military operations are disproportionate and have caused many civilian casualties.
"These concerns have been raised throughout the international community, and I hope that Israel will move to de-escalate this terrible situation."
