WEIR WELCOMES BERR COMMITTEE INQUIRY INTO FUTURE OF POST OFFICES.

WEIR WELCOMES BERR COMMITTEE INQUIRY INTO FUTURE OF POST OFFICES.

‘OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A VIBRANT POST OFFICE NETWORK’.
Mike Weir MP, SNP Business and Enterprise spokesperson, who is also a member of the BERR select committee, has today (Thursday) welcomed the decision of the committee to launch a major inquiry into the future of the Post Office. The BERR Committee have taken up a request from the UK Government to review which future services should be offered through the Post Office network, although Committee members have made it clear that they will retain full control over the scope of the inquiry. Commenting, Mr Weir said “Scotland has recently undergone a very painful network change programme which has seen many local Post Offices shut. “The Post Office remains an integral part of local communities and it is vital that we look closely at how it can move forward and provide the services that communities require. “I hope that after the many disappointments of the network change programme this inquiry will give us the opportunity to create a vibrant Post Office network that will prosper in the future.”
