SNP MSP COMMENTS ON CONTINUING CHERNOBYL LEGACY.
400 FARMS SUBJECT TO RESTRICTIONS 22 YEARS ON.
Commenting on the report in today's Sunday Post nearly 400 farms across the UK are still subject to restrictions because of the Chernobyl nuclear accident more than 22 years ago Alasdair Morgan, South of Scotland MSP and member of the Parliament's Rural Affairs Committee said;
"Chernobyl showed the world the damage that nuclear power stations can cause and how far that damage can stretch.
"That 20 years after the tragic events at Chernobyl five farms in South West Scotland are still suffering the impact of that event shows the dangers of nuclear power on our shores.
"The SNP is determined that we will not see new nuclear power stations in Scotland and efforts by the UK Government to reclaim planning powers to force a nuclear plant on Scotland are a disgrace.
"The SNP remains opposed to new nuclear power stations in Scotland and is opposed."
