BROWN CONFIRMS “RESPECT” FOR MEGRAHI DECISION

BROWN CONFIRMS “RESPECT” FOR MEGRAHI DECISION

Speaking on BBC News earlier today Prime Minister Gordon Brown confirmed
his respect not only for the Scottish Government’s right to make the
decision but also the decision itself.

Addressing the release of Megrahi Mr Brown said:

“I respect the right of Scottish ministers to make the decision and the
decision”

SNP MP and Westminster Leader Angus Robertson said:

“Gordon Brown has finally confirmed that he is in support of the decision
and the way in which it was made.

“This revelation drives a coach and horses through Iain Gray’s position in
Scotland and leaves him without a leg to stand on.

“Gordon Brown’s government still has questions to answer around the PTA
but in expressing his view on the decision Brown has taken a major step
forward.

“Labour’s position in the Scottish Parliament looks increasingly
ridiculous as MSPs now scrabble to justify their politically motivated
opposition.

“Kenny MacAskill made the right decision for the right reasons.

“In the last 24 hours we have seen from the UK Government that that is a
decision and a process they respect.”
