SNP MORAY MSP AND MP COMMENT ON FLOODING

SNP MORAY MSP AND MP COMMENT ON FLOODING.

In the wake of widespread flooding, Moray SNP MSP Richard Lochhead and SNP
MP Angus Robertson have commented on the situation.

Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“Extreme wet weather has once again inflicted horrific devastation on
homes and businesses in Moray and many families are now left once again
having to pick up their lives. Having personally witnessed both the Elgin
flooding and the aftermath of Rothes and Fochabers, I cannot begin to
imagine the pain experienced by those directly affected in these and the
other local communities hit.

“ In Rothes, I joined distressed constituents in their homes as they
attempted to come to terms with the damage inflicted on their property as
they prepared to head to temporary accommodation for potentially many
weeks. Many residents I spoke in Elgin and elsewhere simply can’t
believe that once again they have become the victims of flooding.

“ I pay huge tribute to the emergency services and Moray Council workers
who have worked round the clock to protect life and property, many of whom
told me that they had not slept for nearly two days."

Moray MP Angus Robertson said:

" Water levels are higher than I have ever seen them before and
communities have rallied to support people whose homes and businesses have
been flooded.

“ The objective must now be for everyone to help the victims of the worst
flooding to hit Moray for many years to assist them rebuild their lives
and get back to normality as quickly as possible.

" The hard lessons learnt from this latest devastation include the need
for local agencies to redouble their efforts to get flood prevention
measures into place and to recognise that climate change will only lead to
more flooding in the future.”

" A lot of people from the emergency services, Moray Council and
volunteers throughout Moray have worked very hard to fight the rising
waters and minimise the damage. They deserve the highest praise."
