HEALTH BUDGET BOOST PROTECTS FRONTLINE SERVICES

HEALTH BUDGET BOOST PROTECTS FRONTLINE SERVICES

Increases in funding for the health service have been welcomed today by SNP MSP Dr Ian McKee.

The budget announced by Finance Secretary John Swinney sees funding for NHS boards rise to over £8.5 billion, an increase of 2.7%, protecting frontline services.

Dr Mckee, a former GP and member of the Scottish Parliament’s health committee said this showed the SNP's determination to protect frontline services from Labour cuts:

“The SNP Government has put protecting frontline services at the heart of this years budget.

“I welcome the Scottish Government’s decision to reject the health spending cut imposed by Labour in London and to put money into the health service to fill that gap and increase investment in frontline NHS services.

“With the first reduction in the Government’s budget since devolution, the protection given to the health service is welcome and shows the SNP’s commitment to protect Scottish public services in the face of UK spending cuts.
