DARLING HUMILIATES INCOMPETENT GRAY

DARLING HUMILIATES INCOMPETENT GRAY

EVE OF CONFERENCE EMBARRASSMENT FOR SCOTTISH LABOUR

In an eve of conference blunder, Chancellor Alistair Darling has undermined Labour’s Holyrood leader Iain Gray by suggesting that the SNP Government has been allowed a free run because of Gray’s ineffective leadership – Mr Darling said the SNP “have had two years where they have not been exposed to particular criticism or questioning.”

Seizing on the Chancellor’s admission, SNP Chief Whip Stewart Hosie MP said:

“As if his leadership was not in enough trouble already this swipe from the Chancellor is enough to almost make you feel sorry for Iain Gray.

“The timing of Alistair Darling’s attack could not be more embarrassing for Iain Gray as he heads to Brighton for Labour’s conference – party leaders are supposed to be showcased by their colleagues, not shown up.

“Iain Gray has been branded incompetent by the Chancellor, undermined by Steven Purcell on policy issues, and is playing tug of war with Jim Murphy over who is really in charge of Labour in Scotland. To top it off, after a year leading his group at Holyrood, the polls suggest nobody actually knows who he is or what he stands for.”
