MSP WELCOMES GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR PROMOTING SCOTLAND

MSP WELCOMES GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR PROMOTING SCOTLAND

South of Scotland MSP, Aileen Campbell – a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Education and Culture Committee - has today (Thursday) welcomed figures released in Parliamentary answer showing that since November 2008, the Scottish Government has promoted Scotland at a range of events during the Year of Homecoming involving performers who are all based in Scotland.

Ms Campbell also highlighted the cost-effectiveness of this approach, citing figures published by the UK Government showing that expenditure on performers by ONE Department outstrips that of the whole Scottish Government during the Homecoming year.

Commenting Ms Campbell said:

“It is particularly pleasing that during our Year of Homecoming, when Scotland is showcasing itself to the world through a large number of promotional events, the Scottish Government is supporting Scottish performers, giving them the opportunity to market both their country and the nation’s talent.

“This support recognises the exceptional creative talent that exists in Scotland, providing a platform upon which to excel.

“Another positive aspect of these figures is that the promotion of Scotland is being done at such good value for money, with the cost for the whole Scottish Government being less than the equivalent spend of a single UK Government Department.”
