EXTRA FUNDING FOR GAELIC LANGUAGE

EXTRA FUNDING FOR GAELIC LANGUAGE

A Glasgow MSP has welcomed today's announcement by the Scottish Government today that an extra £500 thousand will be made available to Glasgow in order to increase the provision of Gaelic in Glasgow.

The extra funding will be used to renovate classrooms and increase sport provision at the Glasgow Gaelic School.

Since moving to its new premises in 2006 the Glasgow Gaelic School has seen a huge increase in student numbers from Glasgow and throughout the central belt of Scotland as the demand for Gaelic education has grown.

Commenting on the announcement Sandra White MSP for the Glasgow Region said:

"This is fantastic news for the school and its pupils, who have worked hard to make Glasgow Gaelic school the huge success story that it is and this extra funding will now allow the school to push forward with the plans it has"

"The success of the school is a great testament to the enduring demand for Gaelic in Glasgow and it my hope that we can now build upon what we have already achieved and ensure that Gaelic continues to flourish in Scotland"
