LIB DEMS PLAN TAX HIKE IN SCOTLAND – FREEZE IN ENGLAND

LIB DEMS PLAN TAX HIKE IN SCOTLAND – FREEZE IN ENGLAND

OPPOSITION INCOHERENT ON COUNCIL TAX FREEZE

The Lib Dems are in chaos over the council tax freeze.

Liberal Democrats in England are pressuring Local Authorities to freeze council tax – whilst their Scottish counterparts are calling for council tax hikes – despite the offer of a freeze from the SNP Government.

Liberal Democrats in Redbridge Council have forced their Tory counterparts to agree a council tax freeze to “help hard pressed families.”

Help for families in Scotland has been made available through the Scottish Government’s support for a council tax freeze – a move now opposed by Scottish Lib Dems.

Commenting on the Lib Dems disarray SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson said:

“The Lib Dems are in total disarray – last year it was £800 million in tax cuts, this year they want to increase the Council Tax.

“They used to say there would be no spending cuts, now Nick Clegg says they want to impose savage cuts.
“They were against tuition fees in England, now they have no idea where they stand north or south of the Border.
“Tavish Scott is bobbing around like a cork off the Bournemouth shores, trying and failing to make sense of the shifting sands of Lib Dem policy.

“The only message coming out loud and clear from Lib Dem conference is that the Lib Dems are completely incoherent.”
