SNP TAKE GROUNDBREAKING CAMPAIGN TECHNOLOGY TO NEW LEVEL

'ACTIVATE MOBILE’ TOOL GOES LIVE WITH SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY

A STEP CHANGE IN CAMPAIGNING CAPABILITY FOR PARTY AS SNP PREPARE FOR WESTMINSTER

The SNP today (Friday) unveiled details of their new online mobile campaigning system for activists on the move as part of the party's campaign for the Westminster elections and beyond.

'Activate' is a unique online campaigning tool which has allowed the SNP to effectively target specific voter groups both locally and nationally since 2007; and gave the SNP the campaigning edge to deliver its historic election victory.

As we move on to the Westminster campaign the party has taken it to new heights by allowing activists to use it with mobile iPhones wherever they may be with the system able to provide registered campaigners with the names and addresses of voters in the area they are standing.

The development and implementation of ‘Activate Mobile’ could be the first in the world and takes the party's ability to run effective campaigns to a whole new level as the head to head race with Labour at next year’s Westminster election heats up.

Key points of ‘Activate’:

• Activate is a groundbreaking, unique campaign system

• It enables efficient, effective and co-ordinated use of our expanding activist base across the country

• It enables the party to utilise cutting-edge market-research techniques to more effectively target voters across the country

Key points of ‘Activate Mobile’:

• Registered ‘Activate’ activists who own a iPhone will be able to download and install an app – or an iPhone software application – which installs ‘Activate Mobile’ on their iPhones

• The software will identify the ‘Activate Mobile’ activist’s location

• With the location identified contact details for voters are downloaded allowing the ‘Activate Mobile’ activist to doorstep canvass those voters in the location

• The activist is then able to input the canvass data immediately into the ‘Activate Mobile’ thus saving time and the paper which would be used in a traditional canvass

Announcing the details of the new ‘Activate Mobile’ system, SNP Campaign Co-ordinator Stewart Hosie MP, said:

"The SNP is better prepared than at any time in its history to fight elections.

"Already with ‘Activate’ we have the most sophisticated campaigning tool available to any party in the country, and it definitely gave us a significant electoral advantage in the 2007 elections.

“Now with ‘Activate Mobile’ we can step up that campaigning advantage further. Not only will it end the usual paper trail of doorstep canvassing but it will save time as information can now be inputted almost immediately into our central ‘Activate’ system.

“We will be piloting this new system in the Glasgow North East by-election and believe it will be a significant advancement in our campaigning potential.

“We are now the only political party in Scotland to have an integrated online and mobile campaigning system for activists, and this will deliver a significant difference to local and national results.

"Our new ‘‘Activate Mobile’ system has been developed in-house and has the potential to deliver campaign intelligence far ahead of systems on which our opponents have spent millions of pounds.

"Next year's Westminster election is a clear two horse race between the SNP and Labour. We are preparing to win, and exciting new developments in technology like ‘Activate Mobile’ will give us a further competitive edge as we move closer to that election."
