SNP: INVESTING IN GLASGOW WITH £842M FOR NEW HOSPITAL

SNP: INVESTING IN GLASGOW WITH £842M FOR NEW HOSPITAL

LABOUR HYPOCRISY 'BEYOND BELIEF'

SNP MSP for Glasgow Anne McLaughlin has rejected Labour's absurd smear
tactics over the SNP's funding for Glasgow. Ms McLaughlin pointed out
that, not only did Glasgow City Council receive the highest grant per head
of population of any mainland local authority, the SNP Scottish Government
is also investing over £842 million in the new Southern General Hospital
for the city.

Commenting, Ms McLaughlin said:

"Despite swingeing cuts to our budget by the UK Labour Government, the SNP
Government is ensuring that Glasgow gets the funding it needs to flourish.

"Not only does Glasgow City Council receives the highest grant per head of
population of any mainland local authority, the SNP Government is directly
investing over £842m in the new Southern General Hospital and over £2bn to
build infrastructure in advance on the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Ms McLaughlin added:

"Working for a healthier Scotland is one of the SNP Government's top
priorities.

"We are phasing out prescription charges and we have ring fenced the
NHS budget to ensure our health services are not damaged by this Downing
Street downturn.

"To claim that Labour saved Stobhill Hospital is hypocrisy beyond belief.
It was the Labour led Scottish Executive's shocking disregard for Stobhill
hospital which saw it lose accident and emergency and inpatient facilities
- a devastating blow to the community. It was this action which saw Labour
lose the Holyrood seat of Strathkelvin and Bearsden in 2003 to hospital
campaigner Dr Jean Turner.

"On November 12th, the people of Glasgow North East will have another
opportunity to reject this record of hypocrisy and neglect with a vote for
David Kerr. He's got what it takes to end 74 years of Labour neglect."
