LABOUR BY-ELECTION CANDIDATES HIGHLIGHTS SNP HOUSE BUILDING SUCCESS

The wheels came off Labour’s campaign roadshow today (Thursday) as their
candidate’s claims over the SNP’s investment in Glasgow were exposed by
his own stunt and Labour's Holyrood leader Iain Gray came out in support
of the SNP's call for capital acceleration.

Since 2007, under the SNP Government, 3241 properties have been started by
housing associations in Glasgow – more than in any other 2 year period.

And in 2008-09, 1898 approvals were granted in Glasgow through the
affordable housing investment programme funded by the Scottish Government.
A further 400 new homes were announced earlier this month.

SNP MSP Bob Doris said:

“Labour’s roadshow has been running on empty all week and today the wheels
have completely come off.

“Housing development across the north of the city has continued apace
under the SNP. Record investment from the SNP has seen 3241 properties
started in two years, and nearly 2000 approved in the last year alone.

“The SNP is investing a record £1.6 billion in housing with over 30% of
that money spent in Glasgow. Labour’s figures are fantasy.

“Iain Gray has today accepted the SNP’s argument that bringing forward
capital from next year to this year is vital to ensure continued recovery
and house building across Scotland.

“With the UK economy languishing in recession while other countries
recover the Labour candidate in this by-election should join the SNP and
support calls for further capital acceleration during the recession - not
damaging Labour cuts.”
