WEIR RESPONDS TO ROYAL MAIL STRIKE LATEST

WEIR RESPONDS TO ROYAL MAIL STRIKE LATEST

Commenting following a statement in the House of Commons this afternoon (Tuesday) on planned Royal Mail industrial action, SNP Westminster Business and Enterprise spokesperson, Mike Weir MP, appealed for a resolution to the dispute.

Mr Weir said:

It is vital that both sides go to arbitration and try and settle this dispute before it does irreparable damage to Royal Mail and to businesses throughout Scotland.

It is unreasonable for management to refuse to go to arbitration until the union effectively surrenders by calling off Thursday’s strike. Surely it would be far better to enter negotiations now with a view to making progress towards avoiding a strike – and certainly avoiding future strikes. The management’s attitude seems to be an example of their macho style of that has contributed to the current difficulties.”
