REVIEW OF AFGHAN STRATEGY REQUIRED

REVIEW OF AFGHAN STRATEGY REQUIRED

Commenting on the email sent by Lietuentant Colonoel Robert Thorneloe,
revealed in today's Daily Mail, in which he warned that the shortage of
helicopters for UK troops in Afghanistan increased their exposure to bombs
and branded them "not fit for purpose" SNP Defence Spokesperson and Moray
MP Angus Robertson said:

"These emails underline the need for an urgent review of UK strategy in
Afghanistan.

“The public, and our forces themselves, have the right to question why the
current strategy is failing. People need to be convinced that the UK
Government actually has a credible strategy in place and the necessary
equipment in the hands of our forces.

"Colonel Thorneloe was extremely well thought of and his views cannot be
dismissed by Downing Street."
