GLASGOW COUNCIL 'LETTING YOUNG PEOPLE DOWN' WITH MASSIVE PAY OFF FOR FAILED BOSS

GLASGOW COUNCIL 'LETTING YOUNG PEOPLE DOWN' WITH MASSIVE PAY OFF FOR
FAILED BOSS

ONLY SNP HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO PUT EDUCATION FIRST

Leader of the SNP group in Glasgow City Council, James Dornan, has hit out
as the former head of education Margret Doran recieved a redundancy
package of £278 000 from Glasgow City Council - after less than two years
in post.

Commenting, Cllr Dornan said:

"Labour have failed young people in Glasgow once again.

"Not only have they closed schools against the wishes of parents, they
pushed through organisational reforms that were never going to work - the
merged department was simply too big.

"Now, learners across the city will lose out as this lump sum - almost 14
times a new teacher's salary - is paid out with no benefit to Glasgow's
schools."

SNP candidate in the forthcoming Glasgow North East by-election, David
Kerr added:

"The Labour Council have their priorities all wrong - especially when it
comes to education.

"Instead of shutting schools, upping class sizes and cutting teacher
numbers, they should be scrapping these excessive payments and investing
more of their record budget in education.

"The SNP is committed to better opportunities for our young people. That's
why we are creating 3000 new university places, investing in a programme
of college refurbishment across Glasgow and driving down class sizes
across the country.

"Only an SNP victory in the forthcoming by-election will send a message
enough is enough. Only the SNP have what it takes to put Glasgow's young
people first."
