LABOUR’S CAMPAIGN HITS BUFFERS AS BY-ELECTION DECEIT COMES OFF THE RAILS

LABOUR’S CAMPAIGN HITS BUFFERS AS BY-ELECTION DECEIT COMES OFF THE RAILS

LONDON LABOUR HYPOCRISY AS THEY PLAN TO CUT GLASGOW'S EXISTING RAIL LINKS

A VOTE FOR THE SNP WILL SAY NO TO LONDON LABOUR’S CUTS

Labour’s by-election campaign hit the buffers today as it was revealed the
UK Labour Government is to axe a vital train link between Glasgow and
London.

Labour’s campaign of fears and smears in Glasgow North East complained
that the SNP cancelled an unaffordable train link that hadn’t been started
– while all along they have been planning to axe a well-used service
connecting Glasgow with London, that already brings business, tourists
and jobs.

It is only the SNP that is investing in rail services for Glasgow with the
electrification of the Glasgow-Edinburgh link, investment in upgrading the
station at Dalmarnock, and investing in the Glasgow-Paisley line.
The revelation comes as the SNP’s teams of activists deliver an anti-smear
message to the constituency as the SNP continues to close the gap on
Labour’s 10,000 majority.

SNP Leader, First Minister Alex Salmond said:

“Labour’s campaign has well and truly hit the buffers in Glasgow North
East. Deceiving voters like this is just another sign of the 74 years of
contempt and complacency that has seen Labour let down Glasgow time after
time.

“This secret plan to slash one of Glasgow’s main connections to London, a
connection that is vital for business, for tourism and for employment, is
a clear sign that Labour continue to take Glasgow and Glasgow voters for
granted. It is the deceit at the heart of their campaign.

“Labour’s London transport minister has spent two days lecturing the
Scottish Government about an unaffordable airport link, when all along his
department was set to axe important and existing service to and from
Glasgow.

“Compared to Labour hypocrisy, it is the SNP Government that is investing
in rail services, cutting journey times between Glasgow and Edinburgh ,
bringing Dalmarnock Station up to scratch for our Commonwealth Games city,
and improving the connection between Glasgow and Paisley.

“Behind Labour’s fears and smears over an unaffordable rail link, they
have been plotting to cut Glasgow off a main route in and out of the city.

“Today’s revelations expose the hypocrisy of Labour. A vote for David
Kerr this Thursday will send a clear message that after 74 years, Glasgow
North East won’t be taken for granted by Labour anymore."

SNP Candidate in Glasgow North East David Kerr said:

“The Labour Government is presiding over the loss of key rail services to
and from Glasgow. This decision shows where their priorities really
lie. Only a vote for the SNP can stop London Labour in their tracks and
deliver the best services for Glaswegians.

“For example, the SNP Government are delivering a 1 billion investment
package to cut journey times between Glasgow and Edinburgh to 35 minutes,
as well as the Glasgow-Paisley improvements, and improvements to
Dalmarnock station – while all the time Labour are cutting services.

"Labour are treating the people of Glasgow shamefully. They have presided
over 74 years of decline in this constituency and I won't, the SNP won't,
and certainly the people of Glasgow North-East won't put up with it
anymore."

Glasgow East MP, John Mason condemned Labour’s by-election deceit and
slammed the plans to axe one of Glasgow’s key routes to London.

"These plans are a serious mistake and must be stopped in their tracks.
This development derails Labour’s campaign in Glasgow North East, and
shows they simply cannot be trusted.

"The SNP team at Westminster will fight tooth and nail against this plan.
And with a strong voice for Glasgow North-East in David Kerr, we can stop
this and keep Glasgow’s services on the rails.”
