TORIES TO ALLOW REFERENDUM FOR WALES, BUT NOT SCOTLAND

Dr Alasdair Allan has today (Friday) hit out at the double standards of the Tories on the right to self-determination.

Speaking in North Wales today (Friday), Tory Leader, David Cameron has said that he would allow a plebiscite on the constitutional future of Wales, despite refusing one for Scotland. The SNP Government will launch a bill in the Scottish Parliament early next year and give the people of Scotland their say, however the Tories have stood in constant opposition.

Dr Alasdair Allan MSP said:

“I would like to say I am shocked at the Tories consistent refusal to allow the people of Scotland a say on their future, but they have never cared for Scotland and most likely never will - voters know this and have shown that at the ballot box.

“This is indeed encouraging for the people of the Wales, I only wish that the Tories would show the same trust and respect to Scotland.

“The Tories say they want constitutional change by giving the Scots Parliament more powers, however there can be no other way to make the desired change than putting trust in the people and allowing them a voice.

“The SNP have got what it takes to take this country forward, the Scottish Government have what it takes to take this country forward and most importantly the people of Scotland have what it takes to take this country forward – it’s time to give them a say.”
