TORY HYPOCRISY ON REFERENDUM UNTENABLE

TORY HYPOCRISY ON REFERENDUM UNTENABLE

CONSERVATIVES CANNOT DENY THE PEOPLE OF SCOTLAND A SAY

Following David Cameron's comments that a Tory Government at Westminster would allow the people of Wales a say on their constitutional future, SNP MSP Dr Alasdair Allan has said they now have no choice but to back a similar referendum in Scotland.

The SNP Government will launch a bill in the Scottish Parliament early next year to give the people of Scotland their say in an Independence referendum. However, the Tories have stood in constant opposition – a position that must now change following David Cameron's remarks regarding Wales.

Dr. Allan said:

"It is now clear that the Tories in the Scottish Parliament must back the referendum bill to save themselves from utter hypocrisy. Scotland deserves a voice just as much as Wales does and opinion polls show that there is a clear majority wanting a voice on Scotland's future in a referendum.

"The Tories should show the same level of trust and respect to the people of Scotland as they have afforded to Wales.

"The London-based parties have been running scared of Scottish opinion, but they can't do so for much longer, as Scotland's voice is growing stronger and stronger. The SNP and Scottish Government have got what it takes to move this country forward, and most importantly the people of Scotland have what it takes to move this country forward – it’s time to give them a say. It's time for Independence."
