LAST MINUTE GOVERNMENT CLIMB DOWN WELCOMED
LAST MINUTE GOVERNMENT CLIMB DOWN WELCOMED
Angus MP Mike Weir has welcomed the last minute climb down by the UK
government over the repeal of the Furnished Holiday Letting rules.
Mr Weir has campaigned hard against the repeal which could have had a
devastating impact upon self catering businesses in Scotland.
The government have backed down due to strong opposition during the "wash
up" of legislation prior to the dissolution of Parliament.
"Although the occupancy threshold is being raised to twenty weeks this is
none the less a major victory and will be welcomed by the self catering
industry throughout Scotland. "
"The SNP have led the campaign against the government proposal and kept
pressing the issue when no one else was interested."
"Tourism is a vital part of the Scottish economy and the repeal of these
rules would have done irreparable damage at a time when the Scottish
government are doing everything in their power to promote the sector to
help in our economic recovery.
"This is exactly the kind of key issue affecting Scottish communities and
businesses that the SNP as local and national champions will work hard on
for our constituents."
