MARTIN BELL ENDORSES ANGUS MacNEIL AS LOCAL CHAMPION FOR RE-ELECTION

FORMER INDEPENDENT MP PRAISES MacNEIL’S WORK ON CASH FOR PEERAGES

Former Independent MP Martin Bell has publicly endorsed Angus MacNeil MP and pledged his support for his re-election campaign in Na h-Eileanan an Iar.

Martin Bell was the Independent MP for Tatton from 1997 to 2001 and later worked with Angus MacNeil on the cash-for-peerages scandal. As well as sitting in the House of Commons, Mr Bell was also formerly a British UNICEF Ambassador and broadcaster with the BBC.

In his letter of endorsement Martin Bell writes:

“Although I am an Independent, I have a high regard for Angus MacNeil and his achievements in the House of Commons.

“It was partly through his tireless efforts that the cash for peerages scandal came to light.

“If I had the good fortune to live in the Western Isles I would have no hesitation in voting for him.”

Commenting Angus MacNeil said:

“I’m obviously flattered and extremely thankful for Martin’s support, we worked closely together exposing Labour’s cash-for-peerages scandal and championing the need for cleaner politics. Usually he wants to get party politicians out of Parliament so I'm very grateful that he wants to keep this one in.

“Martin was a fantastic MP, a local champion, who was always standing for what he believed in and he worked hard to expose the sleaze that engulfs the Westminster parliament.

“With a large block of SNP and Plaid Cymru MP’s, we can continue to stand up against that sleaze and clean up Westminster politics. To champion a better politics.

“In Scotland, it’s a two horse race between SNP local champions and London Labour. A vote for the SNP is a vote to clean up politics and put people back at the centre of politics.”
