TRIDENT EMERGES AS KEY ELECTION ISSUE

TRIDENT EMERGES AS KEY ELECTION ISSUE

LABOUR & TORIES UNITED IN WASTING £100bn ON WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

Speaking after this afternoon's debate on BBC Scotland's Politics Show, in which Labour and the Tories both defended spending £100 billion on a new generation of nuclear weapons, SNP defence spokesman Angus Robertson said:

"Trident has now emerged as a key issue of this election campaign, and what is quite clear is that Labour and the Tories are absolutely united on the issue. The LibDems are also committed to wasting billions on nuclear weapons.

"They both plan to spend £100 billion on a new generation of weapons of mass destruction stored here in Scotland - despite not saying whether they would ever sanction the use of nuclear weapons. It merely underlines the waste involved when the London parties threaten cuts to vital front-line services in Scotland.

"Only the SNP offers a real alternative. We say scrap these morally indefensible weapons of mass destruction and spend the money saved on things like health and education."
