£10 MILLION INVESTMENT IN SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT BOOSTS SCOTLAND’S LOW CARBON ECONOMY

Shirley Anne Somerville MSP has welcomed today’s announcement of a major Scottish Government investment in sustainable transport initiatives.

Announcing the allocation of the final consequentials from last year’s UK budget, Scottish Government Finance Secretary John Swinney confirmed that £10 million will be directed towards developing low carbon transport alternatives.

SNP MSP Ms Somerville, a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change Committee, said:

“This is a hugely important announcement that will be a major boost to developing the low carbon economy that is so essential to Scotland’s future.

“The SNP government is committed to investing in sustainable forms of transport that minimise the negative environmental effects of travel, while still maintaining an efficient and effective transport system across Scotland.

“Investment in low carbon transport is an essential step towards achieving the targets set out in Scotland’s world-leading climate change legislation. Today’s announcement shows that this SNP government is putting its money where it mouth is when it comes to tackling climate change and protecting our environment.”
