AFFORDABLE HOUSING GETS £31 MILLION INVESTMENT BOOST

John Wilson MSP has welcomed today’s announcement of a major Scottish Government investment in social housing.
Announcing the allocation of the final consequentials from last year’s UK budget, Scottish Government Finance Secretary John Swinney confirmed that an additional £31 million will be used to build even more affordable homes in Scotland, bringing the SNP government’s investment in social housing to a record total of £1.71 billion over three years.

SNP MSP for Central Scotland Mr Wilson, a member of the Scottish Parliament's Local Government and Communities Committee, said:

“The SNP government has invested substantially more in social housing in its three years in office than Labour managed in eight years. This latest funding announcement brings the number of affordable homes approved by this government to 21,500.

“These badly needed new houses be not only be welcomed by the many people across Scotland who are desperate to find affordable homes - this investment also shows the SNP is serious about boosting jobs in the construction industry during these tough economic times.

“Labour built a grand total of six council houses during their entire time in office. The SNP has launched a new generation of social housing building in Scotland and demonstrated its real commitment to ensuring that every Scot will be able live in an affordable home.”
