CAMERON BRUSHES OFF SCOTLAND IN PRE-ELECTION GAFFE

CAMERON BRUSHES OFF SCOTLAND IN PRE-ELECTION GAFFE

ONLY SNP CAN CHALLENGE LABOUR IN SCOTLAND

SNP MPs WILL CHAMPION SCOTLAND’S INTERESTS

SNP Westminster Leader Angus Robertson MP has seized on comments by Tory Leader David Cameron, who this morning (Friday) virtually dismissed the importance of Scotland in the General Election and said the Tories were unlikely to win many seats in Scotland.

In a question and answer session Mr Cameron said:

"Look I would say that I will be a Prime Minister, if I’m elected who will govern with respect, who knows that in Scotland, however well the Conservatives do, we’re unlikely to get a very large number of seats..."

Commenting, Mr Robertson said:

"This admission just underlines how the election in Scotland is a contest between the SNP and Labour. David Cameron has effectively said the Tories can't challenge Labour in Scotland.

"And for David Cameron to say that the way Scotland votes in a general election doesn’t really matter shows the Tories cloaked in their old anti-Scottish colours.

"Whoever forms the next Government – Labour or Tory – plan to slash the Scottish budget. Scotland will need champions who will speak up for Scottish services and jobs. The General Election has never mattered more north of the Border – and SNP champions have never mattered more to Scotland. More votes will mean More Nats, and More Nats will mean Less Cuts.

"The real fight in 2010 is not the phoney war between Labour and Tory - the tweedledum and tweedledee of politics. The real fight is for Scotland, and only the SNP will champion Scotland’s interests at Westminster."
