INDEPENDENCE CAUSE "GATHERING MOMENTUM" SAY TORIES

INDEPENDENCE CAUSE "GATHERING MOMENTUM" SAY TORIES

BUT DOUBLE STANDARDS OVER REFERENDUM REMAIN

Responding to today's (Tuesday) London launch of the Tory manifesto, which concedes that the case for independence is continuing to "gather momentum" but refuses to say the Conservatives will back a referendum in Scotland like they do in Wales, SNP Westminster leader Angus Robertson said:

"The Tories have accepted the drive to independence is gathering pace, but they are guilty of outrageous double standards when it comes to a referendum.

"Their manifesto says they will 'grant a referendum' on more powers for the Welsh Assembly - but in Scotland all they propose is kicking the Calman proposals deep into the long grass while trying to stop the people of Scotland having a free and fair vote on their own future.

"Their stance on the constitution is totally incoherent and unsustainable. David Cameron's so-called respect agenda has been exposed as a sham, and the Tories will pay a heavy price at the ballot box in Scotland."
