LABOUR’S SHRINKING JOBS PLEDGE

LABOUR’S SHRINKING JOBS PLEDGE

156,000, 100,000 AND NOW 20,000 – WHAT IS THEIR MAIN PLEDGE?

MANIFESTO LAUNCH RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT LABOUR’s COMMITMENT & HONESTY

Commenting on Labour’s Scottish manifesto launch in Ravenscraig today (Monday) Stewart Hosie, the SNP's Westminster election campaign coordinator, challenged Labour to explain why their pledge on jobs was shrinking all the time.

Mr Hosie said:

“Labour’s dissembling in this campaign won’t halt the decade of despair that they and the Tories plan. Only by voting for SNP Champions can Scotland stop the cuts threatened by Labour.

“However the number of jobs they are promising is raising eyebrows. At the budget they were saying Labour would create 156,000 jobs. Last week Iain Gray was saying 100,000 skilled jobs over 5 years. Now it’s simply 20,000 jobs or training places.

“At this rate Labour may be able to tell us the truth by election day about how many jobs they actually plan to cut. After all one of their Ministers admitted this in London last week along with all the other London parties.

“It’s time Labour in Scotland came clean about their plans in this election. It’s time they declared their support for Alistair Darling’s ‘deeper and tougher’ cuts than Thatcher and how many jobs they plan to cut.”
