TORIES FAIL ON FUEL PLEDGE – SHAMEFUL RECORD ON FAIR FUEL PRICES

TORIES FAIL ON FUEL PLEDGE – SHAMEFUL RECORD ON FAIR FUEL PRICES

The SNP today criticised Tory hypocrisy over fuel plans – highlighting
their failure to vote for the Fair Fuel Regulator proposed by the SNP in
recent budgets.

The SNP has consistently put forward amendments to the UK budget to
introduce a fair fuel regulator which would ensure that when oil prices go
up fuel duty comes down to keep prices stable.

Angus MacNeil, the SNP’s Westminster transport person challenged the
tories over their hypocrisy and questioned their commitment to bringing
prices down.

Mr MacNeil said:

“No-one can trust the Tories on fuel. For the last two years the SNP have
put forward a fair fuel regulator and the Tories refused to vote for it.

“In 2008 and 2009 the Tories have had the chance to make fuel prices fair
and they just like Labour have rejected our fair deal for fuel prices.

“Labour has let fuel prices rise to record levels that are damaging our
economy, hurting household budgets and the Tories have done nothing to
stop it. No-one should believe this Conservative con.

“The best way for Scotland’s voters to bring fuel prices down is to elect
a strong bloc of local and national champions from the SNP to speak up for
Scotland.”
