OBAMA TREATY HIGHLIGHTS UK’S NUCLEAR FOLLY
OBAMA TREATY HIGHLIGHTS UK’S NUCLEAR FOLLY ONLY SNP STAND AGAINST LONDON PARTIES’ NUCLEAR AMBITIONS ONLY SNP CHAMPIONS SPENDING ON JOBS & PUBLIC SERVICES - NOT WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION SNP Glasgow East MP, John Mason, has highlighted the folly of plans by Labour and Tory plans to renew the UK’s nuclear weapons system as the rest of the world makes moves to reduce its nuclear arsenal. The position of the LibDems also remains confused as they propose keeping nuclear warheads. The landmark arms reduction treaty, signed by Barack Obama and Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev today (Thursday), will cut the number of weapons held by the countries by a third and limit the number of launchers. Commenting Mr Mason said: “That the rest of the world is championing arms reduction should send a strong message to the London parties that their plans for a nuclear weapons renewal are unwanted both here and abroad. “Labour and Tory plans to build a “Son of Trident” would cost the tax payer £100,000 million – money which should rightly be used to support economic recovery. With even the LibDems favouring the continuation of a nuclear weapons system it is the only the SNP in Scotland fully standing against this immoral waste. “Only by electing a strong Scottish block of SNP MPs to Westminster can we ensure a solid voice to champion those millions being spent on jobs and frontline services, and against the London parties’ morally and financially bankrupt nuclear ambitions.”
