DARLING’S BUDGET CUTS NEARLY THREE TIMES BIGGER FOR SCOTLAND THAN UK
“DANGEROUS” BUDGET MAKES CASE FOR ‘MORE NATS, LESS CUTS’
Analysis of the Budget by the SNP shows that Westminster cuts will be nearly three as much of those for the UK as a whole. The Scottish budget will be cut in real terms in 2010/11 by 1.3% compared to only 0.5% UK-wide.
SNP Westminster Treasury spokesperson Stewart Hosie MP said the figures exposed the Labour party for just being like the Tories in Scotland, and proved that that the SNP is right to campaign on the argument that More Nats meant Less Cuts.
Commenting Mr Hosie said:
“Now we have the proof that shows why Labour are just like the Tories in Scotland. That it is only a vote for the SNP will mean ‘More Nats, Less Cuts.
“Everything Alistair Darling said in Budget about the Tories about early cuts applies to Labour in Scotland.
“He said early cuts would be ‘wrong and dangerous’, ‘short-sighted and counter-productive’ and they would ‘pull rug from under the recovery’. Well all those arguments now apply to Alistair darling three fold.
“The people of Scotland will have a clear choice at this coming election. A Labour party cutting Scottish public spending and threatening the creation of jobs, or a vote for a party that stands up for Scotland and against Labour’s cuts.”
