GAMES TAX CAMPAIGN PAYS OFF AS LABOUR GIVE IN UNDER PRESSURE

GAMES TAX CAMPAIGN PAYS OFF AS LABOUR GIVE IN UNDER PRESSURE

SNP CHAMPIONS DELIVER FOR DUNDEE

A campaign by Dundee’s computer games industry backed by the SNP and the
SNP Government has finally forced Labour to look at tax cuts for the
city’s vital computer games industry.

With the General Election on its way Labour fear of losing Dundee West to
the SNP has forced a response to SNP pressure – which has included
debates, speeches and parliamentary motions led by local politicians
Stewart Hosie MP and Joe FitzPatrick MSP in the Scottish and Westminster
Parliaments and has included winning the support of the Scottish
Government.

However the SNP raised concerns that the tax relief has not yet been set,
is subject to a consultation that will take it beyond this election and
that the UK Government has yet to secure EU support for this vital
measure.

SNP MP Stewart Hosie said:

“Dundee has come together with the games industry backed by the SNP and
the Scottish Government delivering a real win for the city today.

“Tax relief for the games industry has been knocked back by Labour before
but the threat of electoral defeat in the city and pressure from the SNP
has finally forced action.

“However as this relief will not come in before the election – the only
way to maintain the pressure on Labour and the Tories to back one of
Dundee’s growth industries is to ensure a strong voice for the city in the
next Parliament with more SNP MPs.”

SNP MSP for Dundee West Joe FitzPatrick said:

“Dundee is the heart of Scotland and the UK’s Games industry. It is now
for the industry with the same support from the SNP that has won this
concession to make sure this plan is delivered in the next Parliament and
is not just some kind of pre-election bribe by Labour.

“With no details about the plan and no permission yet secured from the
European Union there is still more to do and the SNP will support Dundee’s
games industry to make sure this tax is delivered and delivered soon.”
