LABOUR MUST TELL PEOPLE OF GLASGOW THE TRUTH - DORNAN

NEW CASH FOR ACCESS ALLEGATIONS ENGULF LABOUR

Leader of the SNP Group in Glasgow City Council, Cllr James Dornan, has
expressed his concern over continuing damaging allegations in the Sunday
newspapers regarding the Labour Party in Glasgow, in the aftermath of
Steven Purcell's resignation from the Council.

Following on from previous reports regarding drugs, and Mr Purcell's
reported vulnerability to the pressure of blackmail, this weeked has
brought fresh revelations that individuals, organisations and the Labour
Party have reportedly benefited from the arms-length Glasgow Council
construction company City Building.

Scotland on Sunday reports that: “An investigation into one of Purcell's
initiatives – a construction quango called City Building – found that the
wage bill for senior employees doubled in just two years. Some of those
who benefited were Labour members closely allied to the former leader.
The same quango also spent thousands of pounds on hospitality, including
paying £2,000 for a table at a Labour party fundraiser where, among
several Labour figures, it entertained Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray.”

Similar allegations are also reported in today’s Sunday Times.

Commenting, Cllr Dornan said:

“These are extremely serious allegations, and it is high time the Labour
Party told the people of Glasgow the truth.

"This drip drip of extremely serious allegations involving the Labour
Party has cast a pall over the City Chambers.

“The people of Glasgow, and indeed the people of Scotland, deserve to know
the whole truth about Labour's activities, but with every week that passes
more questions emerge than answers.”
