LABOUR INFIGHTING LETS LOCAL COMMUNITIES DOWN
LABOUR INFIGHTING LETS LOCAL COMMUNITIES DOWN
AIRDRIE AND EAST LOTHIAN NEED A FRESH START
Voters in Airdrie and Shotts and East Lothian face a stark choice between
squabbling Labour politicians and voting for local SNP champions at the
coming election, SNP MP John Mason said today (Monday).
While SNP candidates in both constituencies are working hard to win
the support of voters, to champion local issues and to earn the trust of
communities, Labour’s politicians are preoccupied with ongoing feuds.
Yesterday, Labour’s constituency chairman in Airdrie and Shotts resigned at
the end of a bitter selection contest whilst the President of the Labour
club in East Lothian denounced the sitting MP on Newsnight Scotland.
Making a series of allegations about the MP based on internal Labour party
matters he said: “I don’t believe for one minute that we can win in East
Lothian if Anne Moffat remains the candidate.”
In contrast SNP candidates Sophia Coyle (Airdrie and Shotts) and Andrew
Sharp (East Lothian) have been campaigning in the constituencies and
listening to voters.
Commenting on Labour’s disarray John Mason MP said:
“The public are sick and tired of politicians playing the system and
working for themselves instead of their constituents. Labour’s behaviour
in Airdrie and East Lothian shows the arrogant attitude their politicians
now have to the Scottish public.
“Where the SNP in the Scottish Parliament, at Westminster and in local
authorities is working hard to champion people in these constituencies
Labour are too busy fighting amongst themselves.
“The extraordinary scenes of East Lothian Labour - home of Labour's
Holyrood leader - taking to the BBC to denounce each other rather than to
argue for the interests of constituents are astonishing.
“Voters in these constituencies are being sorely let down by a party in
disarray and politicians more concerned with their own careers than the
challenges facing their local communities.
"At this election voters in Airdrie and East Lothian have a real chance
not to elect just another Labour politician but to take a stand and vote
for a local champion.”
