NOW MORE PRESSURE PILES ON LABOUR OVER PUBLIC SPENDING CUTS

NOW MORE PRESSURE PILES ON LABOUR OVER PUBLIC SPENDING CUTS

GRAY LEFT LOOKING FOOLISH AS ‘MORE NATS, LESS CUTS’ CAMPAIGN GATHERS PACE

Following Alistair Darling’s admission that Labour’s cuts will be “deeper” than Margaret Thatcher’s the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has piled even more pressure on Labour by warning on this evening's Channel 4 News of 25% cuts in government departments from 2011.

Commenting on the latest reports which undermine Labour MSPs misleading claims about spending in Scotland, SNP MSP Joe FitzPatrick – a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee – said:

“Iain Gray, Andy Kerr and all the other Labour MSPs are now looking incredibly foolish and downright dishonest with their claims in the Scottish Parliament today.

“We have research showing that Scotland’s cuts will be nearly three times worse than the UK’s, Alistair Darling has admitted cuts will be worse than Thatcher’s and now the IFS has warned of the depth of Labour’s cuts.

“Just like what we are learning from the Iraq inquiry – you cannot believe a word Labour says. On this issue their credibility isn’t just looking threadbare, it looks delusional.

“The SNP’s campaign for ‘More Nats, Less Cuts’ has just gathered even more pace today with the evidence and pressure piling up against Labour.”
